Sally is 32 years old and was born and raised in Australia in a small town 500 km north of a city called Perth, on the west coast of Australia. Her first living memory is of riding a horse, which is a little strange coming from a family that wouldn’t know the first thing about them. After convincing her parents to buy her a horse at the age of 11 she spent every bit of spare time with the horses, participating at the local pony club and competing at any of the local shows she could get to.  At 17 Sally decided to head east to New South Whales, the hub of horse activity in Australia. Based with Australian Olympic  team coach Heath Ryan, also a grand prix dressage rider and Advanced level Eventer and his wife, Rozzi a Grand Prix dressage rider, Sally spent  the next 4 years of her life training and competing in Advanced level Eventing and 4th level dressage. It was here at the NSW Equestrian Centre that she became a qualified coach and dabbled in the world of breeding and training upper level Dressage horses.  She was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to ride some of the Prix St. George and Grand Prix horses.
After a time Sally went out on her own to start her training coaching and selling business, Sally McKechnie Equestrian.  This was extremely successful and in this time she trained 6 horses to two star level Eventing which were all sold on the international and national circuit.  In 2004 Sally decided to make a trip over seas to gain some international experience, so she packed up her things and her horses (at the time Balmoral Avenue) and headed for the USA.
She spent a year based with Phillip Dutton at True Prospect farm and after falling in love with the USA decided to get a visa to stay on.  It is Sally’s goal to represent Australia at a world or Olympic games in Eventing and she feels she is closer to achieving that being based here in the USA.

Sally's days consist of riding her competition horses, teaching students that are either based at her farm or trailer ins.  Most of her weekends are spent away competing at horse trials and dressage shows.

Sally and Hugh Lofting were married in June 2008, and now continue training and competing together.
